Oscars Conflict: How the Winter Games Could Affect the 2014 Academy Awards

Posted by Sean Oconnell on February 27, 2013

Since 2009, the Academy Awards have been trying to move its ceremony up to shrink the gap between the Oscars and its rival telecasts, containing the lengthy awards race into a shorter time frame. But a significant event might drastically alter the 2014 Oscars schedule, and it might not be for the better.   The 2014 Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held from Feb. 7-23, which would be the Sunday that coincides with Oscar Sunday if the Academy held to a similar calendar next year. This... More

Posted by Sean Oconnell on February 25, 2013

Congratulations to Ben Affleck, whose political thriller Argo took home the Oscar for Best Picture during Sunday’s telecast of the Academy Awards.    In doing so, Affleck’s film bested the eight other nominees for Oscar’s top category. But what if Argo had to compete against EVERY movie that had come out in 2012? Would it still have emerged victorious on Oscar eve? Posted by Erik Davis on February 24, 2013

The 2013 Academy Awards opened with a musical number about boob reveals, and no you weren’t imagining that. We expected a racier ceremony with Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy) acting as host, and we definitely witnessed a mouthful of jabs at everyone from Ben Affleck and George Clooney to Abraham Lincoln. But for every button MacFarlane pushed (like making out with Sally Field while suspended in mid-air and dressed as the Flying Nun), the show gave us a lavish musical number. We watched... More

Posted by Christopher Campbell on February 22, 2013

Here we are, our final Oscar discussion before the big night. And the simple question is: who or what do you most hope wins? Okay, maybe not that simple… Do you know how many Oscar nominees there are this year? It’s trickier than it sounds.
