Awards Recap: 'Rango' Takes Best Animated Feature, Art Directors Pick 'Harry Potter,' 'Hugo' and Check Out Our Interactive Oscar Ballot

Posted by Derrick Deane on February 07, 2012

Awards season is drawing to a close. While we await the winners of the Independent Spirit Awards (and yes, the Razzies) in a couple weeks, two more set of awards were handed out over the weekend.

Rango picked up four awards, including the 2012 Annie Award for best animated feature. Kung Fu Panda 2 director Jennifer Yuh Nelson won the best director prize while The Adventures of Tintin took home trophies for best animated effects and best music in a feature production.
In the live-action field, Rise of the Planet of the Apes won best character animation while Transformers 3 grabbed the animated effects prize.
Other winners include Rio for best writing and best editing, Winnie the Pooh for best storyboarding and Bill Nighy was awarded with voice acting prize for his work in Arthur Christmas.
Despite an Oscar nomination for best animated feature and nine Annie Award nods, Puss in Boots went home empty handed. That's one sad little kitty there.
The Art Directors Guild handed out awards to Hugo (period feature film), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (fantasy feature film) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (contemporary feature film).
