Following a strong opening weekend and re-affirmed buzz of being a potential Oscar contender, things are going well for Paramount's Flight. But it looks like it's not going to be smooth skies to Oscar night as Anheuser-Busch is requesting the studio "obscure or remove" the Budweiser logo from scenes in the film.
For those who haven't had a chance to catch the Denzel Washington-led drama, the veteran actor plays a substance abusing alcoholic who manages to execute a heroic feat by landing a doomed jetliner.
Anheuser-Busch isn't the only company displeased with their products appearing in the film. William Grant & Sons are reportedly displeased with Stolichnaya vodka appearing in the film.
Of course, Paramount doesn't have to comply with the requests. While product placement is rampant in contemporary movies, it's understandable why director Robert Zemeckis and his team didn't give the alcoholic beverage manufacturers a heads up.
Ultimately, a compromise will be reached as it would be rather expensive for Paramount to fix all existing prints. Perhaps the home video release and future film prints will contain a few censored labels. Or they may ignore the complaint entirely.
