'Les Miserables' Will Open on Select IMAX Screens on Christmas Day

Have you dreamed a dream about experiencing Les Miserables in the largest screen format possible? Your Christmas wish is about to come true.
Universal Pictures and IMAX Corporation announced that Tom Hooper’s upcoming adaptation of the stage musical Les Miserables will open in select markets in IMAX on Dec. 25. The film will begin its limited domestic IMAX run in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal day-and-date with its domestic release on Christmas Day. Internationally, the film will begin its IMAX run on Jan. 10 in the Netherlands, followed by Russia, U.K., Mexico, Croatia, Israel, Poland, Italy, France and Brazil.
"Les Misérables is a musical epic that lends itself perfectly to the IMAX experience,” said Nikki Rocco, President of Distribution, Universal Pictures. “Audiences will be immersed in the unforgettable music and breathtaking visuals that only IMAX can provide.”
In transitioning Les Miserables from the stage to the silver screen, Hooper fills his frame with eye-popping visuals that are bound to impress fans of the musical on IMAX. Of course, it’s also a deadly depressing musical that wallows in the sadness and filth of the underprivileged in the years following the French Revolution. And so if you are dying to see Anne Hathaway bare her soul and crumble on the IMAX screen, again, it’s your lucky day.
