Seth MacFarlane to Host the Oscars in 2013 (Updated with Video)

Posted by Peter Hall on October 01, 2012

Seth MacFarlane, director of the breakout hit Ted and the incredibly popular Fox animated sitcom Family Guy, has been selected to host the 2013 Academy Awards. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2013.

"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

This comes after late night host Jimmy Fallon passed on the prestigious gig, citing no specific reason other than saying, "I was honored to be asked by the Academy, but it's not my year."

Those are really the only details we know right now, so let the debate begin: Is Seth MacFarlane a good choice to host Hollywood's fanciest annual party?
