Academy Awards Best & Worst
By Leslie Gornstein

I always hate when journalists sum up an event by saying it was a mixed bag. It just seems lazy somehow. But in truth, in terms of fashion, Oscars 2009 were a very mixed bag. We had flashes of genius so brilliant that I wouldn’t be surprised if the gowns ended up in the permanent collections of a major museum. But we also suffered some pretty ignominious fashion assaults -- made all the worse because they came from fashionistas we trusted. Here are my picks for the best, worst, and most daring from the Oscars of 2009 -- along with some special shout-outs for amazing makeup and hair.
